Refinery tanks

Refinery tanks are one of the types of metal structures.  that are used for storage and maintenance of organic liquids, inorganic liquids, vapors, gases, etc.

Refinery tanks can be of different sizes.

The industries in which these refinery tanks are found for storage .    include the production and refining of oil, petrochemicals and chemicals, and other industries that consume or produce liquids and vapors.

Types of refinery tanks

Various types of tanks are used to store liquids, such as fixed-roof tanks, tanks with external floating roofs, tanks with internal floating roofs, horizontal tanks, pressure tanks, LNG (natural gas) storage tanks, and so on.

The first four types of tanks are cylindrical and perpendicular to the ground. Pressure vessels are often spherical to maintain the integrity of the tank structure at high pressures.

Horizontal tanks can be placed on the ground or below its surface, but pressure tanks are always built on the ground.

Refinery tanks with fixed roof

Fixed-ceiling tanks have the lowest construction cost among tank designs, and in general, the least acceptable equipment for storing liquids is considered for these tanks.

A typical fixed roof tank consists of a steel cylindrical shell with a conical or dome-shaped roof.

These storage tanks are usually fully welded, while older tanks often had a riveted or bolted structure and performed poorly to prevent vapors from escaping.

Refinery tanks with external floating roof

Tanks with an external floating roof consist of a cylindrical shell and a roof that floats on the surface of the liquid inside the tank, and at the same time as the liquid changes, the height of the roof changes and goes up or down.

The purpose of designing external floating roofs is to reduce the evaporation losses of the liquid stored in the tank as much as possible and to prevent the formation of vapors on the liquid surface.

Refinery tanks with internal floating roof

These tanks have both types of roofs, ie a fixed roof and a floating roof inside the tank.

Horizontal refinery

Horizontal tanks are built for both surface and underground services.

Horizontal tanks are usually made of steel, fiberglass reinforced polyester or fiberglass coated steel.

Horizontal tanks are usually small tanks.

These tanks are made in such a way that the length of the tank is not more than six times its diameter.

To ensure the integrity of the structure.    Underground reservoirs may be protected by cathodic methods to prevent corrosion of the reservoir shell.

However, due to the corrosion inhibitors now found in most refined petroleum

products, cathodic protection is no longer used in the oil industry to maintain reservoirs and prevent corrosion.

Different shapes of tanks

The shape of the tank also depends on the degree of resistance to pressure from the liquid or gas inside the tank. It is effective and that is why tanks are produced in different shapes and diameters.

Such as cylindrical tanks or spherical tanks that show good resistance to high pressure.

In the construction of refinery tanks and in general for the construction of storage tanks. Different types of materials are used that will affect the cost of building the tank.

In Ralco and Rostami tank products, you can see different .

types of storage tanks such as steel tanks and process tanks, as well as blenders, boilers, etc
